You've made the very smart decision, choosing a Co-Motion as your next bicycle. First, THANK YOU for choosing a bicycle made right here in our Eugene, Oregon USA facility by our amazing and talented staff. Your purchase keeps the spirit and tradition of handmade bicycles alive.
In this article, we will explain the Co-Motion ordering process, first steps, and what to expect when you order your very own Co-Motion, whether directly from us or your nearest Co-Motion Dealer. Throughout this process, our team is available in person, online or over the phone to help you find the right model and answer any questions you may have along the way.
Step 1. Choosing the right Co-Motion model.
We offer a range of tandems, touring bikes, adventure bicycles, bikes for gravel and paved roads and in every one of these categories, we offer a range of well-defined sizes with the idea of fitting everyone. Every Co-Motion bicycle is handcrafted right here in our Eugene, Oregon, USA facility. If you’re unsure which model is best for you, our team and dealers are here to help you decide. Check out our growing video gallery, where we dive deeper into many of the models we offer.
Step 2. Placing your deposit online.
Once you’ve selected your model, you’ll place a deposit online or with your local Co-Motion dealer. You do not need to tell us what size bike you want to order at this time. Your deposit secures your place in our build queue and allows us to start planning your dream bike. One of our sales team members will get in touch to go over your order and answer any questions you may have about paint or component options.
Step 3. What size bike is right for you? Completing your fitting guide.
If you've looked at our geometry for the bike you're ordering and you know what size you want to order, you can skip this step. That said, we welcome you to make use of fit guide. This form is designed to be easily completed at your own home, with no special equipment needed. Complete it carefully and thoroughly and we'll analyze your measurements and address your specific needs. Then, we'll make a well-thought-out recommendation for you, with a drawing of the recommended bike showing our positioning recommendation and correct size, as well as a document that describes what the drawing depicts and the reasoning behind the recommendation.
Stock or custom... how do I know what to get?
In most cases, we'll be able to fit you to one of our standard sized "stock" bicycles. Since even our standard-sized stock bicycles are built to order, we can also offer some semi-custom options, such as an extended headtube to provide higher handlebar placement, an excellent cost-effective option when needed. That's just one of the advantages of ordering a Co-Motion! If you're outside of the range that our standard sizes and models can fit, we'll show you why that may be, and we'll recommend a custom-designed bike. Sometimes we'll know the minute we meet you or see your fitting data that custom is going to be the correct approach, for example if you're 6' 11" tall, or perhaps you have some range of motion issues that require an exceptionally upright fit. However tall or small you may be, thanks to our decades of design and fitting experience and thousands of frames built since 1988, we are confident we can accommodate your needs.
Your approval to build
We do not begin cutting and welding bicycle tubing the build your bike until you have reviewed and given us your approval to build what we've described in our fitting recommendation. In some cases, you and your dealer may want to have us make a change. We do not charge for changes made during this process. This dialog is important and ensures that we're all on the same page and that we've addressed all of your needs before proceeding with the build. Once you've signed your fitting recommendation, we can get your bike into our build queue.
Step 4. Choosing your paint and decal colors, and adding your desired options.
This is where the magic happens! You’ll work with our team, or your local dealer, to choose your:
